PT school, thus far, has been not only a time for learning and beginning a new career path and all that, but has been a time for self-reflection and self-learning. I moved in with my boyfriend and this is honestly the most time we've consecutively spent together in our entire relationship. Talk about changes: new school, new state, new place, new people, new living arrangements, etc. I think, overall, it's been positive, but that doesn't mean it hasn't had it's challenges.
The importance of communication has really made it's presence known, as I feel as though my boyfriend and I have had serious weekend discoveries prompted by these talks we have as the week goes on. They ultimately end up being good, but let's be honest, the truth can be wildly unattractive.
Otherwise, being in school again has felt really awesome. Sure, the constant feeling that "I should be studying" is super exhausting and I'm definitely ready for a break, but just to actually be learning things that are going to be super practical and worthwhile for what I want to do is insanely motivating. I'm immersed in a group of people who are all inherently like me: type A (or at least a little...) with strong interests in health and wellness. Seeing us eat lunch together for the first time was interesting (yes, I'm pretty aware of what other people eat) because it was all healthy stuff - veggies, fruits, salads, light dressings, sandwiches, homemade lunches, etc. I still get a little thrown off when someone disses exercising, but otherwise, I think we're on our way to becoming a happy (or relatively happy) family.
Of course, being around people like yourself also can be a cause for self-reflection and comparison - if they're studying that much, then I need to be studying that much. I haven't felt a "competitive" vibe between us, but more a "well-if-they-know-that-much-I-need-to-know-that-much-too" - it's motivating. Or it can be, if you're in the right mood. (Dance parties should always be part of the studying process, I've learned.)
I hope I pass anatomy (class we're in right now) and can continue in the program. We have one more week and then a break until the fall semester, assuming all goes well. Eek! It's all really happening! (Maybe after class that means I can actually explore this new state - beaches, parks, local finds, etc...)
