I think it's a little ironic that Sochi or ("Seww-chi", according to one of my patients at work) has been warmer than it is on the east coast. I yearn for a day over 35 degrees (Farenheit, that is; Celsius would be insanely warm). I hear that it's making the conditions a bit rough and that might be affecting the outcome of a few of the events, which sucks, obviously, but every athlete there has to deal with that. The ones who keep their cool and adapt to things will be the ones who come out on top. You learn that a lot with running, especially cross country races. I raced this one memorable race in a blizzard, a conference championship, and I thought it embodied what cross country was/should be. The conditions sucked, it was a hilly course, and everyone had to deal with it. It became a mental game since the playing field, per se, was leveled. And that's what the Olympics are about, adapting and rolling with the flow. So step up to the plate, kids!
Side note: The story of the Canadian coach helping the Russian skier was AMAZING. This is the DEFINITION of the Olympics. LOVE love love. (If you missed it...) It's been very wintry here, though, and it's making me feel a little bit of cabin fever. I'm usually really good with getting my running in and keeping my spirits up during the winter (hello, I went to a school named "Frostburg" for my undergrad + Master's), but this winter, for whatever reason, has been a bit more challenging...I feel a bit like the image below...(does it make sense in you?)
